Julian Jordan (* 20th August 1995 in Apeldoorn , Province of Gelderland , Netherlands as Julian Dobbenberg ) is a Dutch DJ , in particular by working with his DJ colleague and friend Martin Garrix and the song Blinded by the Light was known. His music style can be classified into the genres progressive - electro - and dub house.

Career

Until 2012: musical beginnings & "Spinnin 'Records"

Jordan's passion for music grew as a child. At the age of five he began taking regular lessons at a music school. He was particularly interested in various percussion instruments, with which he learned and worked until he was young. At the same time, however, his interest in electronic music grew and he began to DJ and produce his first own tracks. At the age of 14 he put his own production Yxalag on the Internet, whereupon several record labels became aware of Jordan. In 2012 he published the songs Travel B and Lynxed on the two labels "Suit Records" and "Plasmapool" with which he made his first name on various music platforms. Before Jordan even finished school, he signed a contract with the successful Dutch label " Spinnin 'Records ". Even during this time, his style of music was shaped by electro and progressive house.

Through “Spinnin '” he got to know the then 16-year-old DJ and producer Martin Garrix . Both studied at the " Herman Brood Academi" and became friends. In 2012 Julian Jordan first published the title Rock Steady on Spinnin ' , after which he later named his radio show Rock Steady Radio . At the same time, a remix for the song Banner by the Canadian musician Lights was released . A collaboration with TV Noise under the name Oxford also appeared on the Internet. After his first published songs, his talent was also noticed internationally. For example, MTV called him an artist to watch . The Dutch DJ and producer Sander van Doorn was also quickly convinced of Jordan and brought him into the studio. Together they produced the instrumental piece Kangaroo , which, in addition to the usual electro house style, also has strong dubhouse elements. Kangaroo was released as a single on August 20, 2012.

After long studio work, the first single followed in November 2012 together with Martin Garrix under the title BFAM . The title is an acronym for "Brother from another mother", which means something like "Brother from another mother" in German. The whole is a nod to the relationship between Jordan and Garrix. The official music video, which shows the two musicians performing numerous times together, was released in October 2012 and has been viewed several million times.

2013 to 2014: Solidification in the EDM scene

In 2013, in addition to all sorts of appearances at various festivals, the single Ramcar followed in May 2013 , which brought him into the Beatport charts again. In July 2013, the title Childish Grandpa followed , which was created in collaboration with TV Noise. In contrast to its predecessor, this contained dubstep-style. Later in the year the track Aztec was released . Jordan was particularly praised for the fact that the musical styles of his individual songs are versatile and that he is not limited to a single genre, but still contains a recognition value.

In the following year 2014, a collaboration with the German DJ duo Twoloud , which was known for its long-term ignorance, followed. The title was called Rockin ' and was another combination of progressive and electro house. The release date was February 14, 2014. The successor single Slenderman was released in summer 2014 and was very different from the previous singles. The title and the mood are based on the fictional horror character of the same name . The song was compared to the track Ghosts 'n' Stuff by Deadmau5 . With the vocal track Angels x Demons he was able to build on the success of Slenderman .

2015 to 2016: From big room to progressive house

The same thing happened with the track The Takedown , released in early 2015 . Both achieved over 2 million views within a few months and reached high positions in the Beatport charts. At the same time, a track with a similar style became well known on the Internet. After a short time it was assigned to Julian Jordan and Martin Garrix and the names How We Rave and Roll , but the collab was not confirmed. The track received promotion in particular from the Belgian DJ duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike . The track has already counted hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.

On February 16, 2015, the track Rage was released as a single. Here he worked with Sander van Doorn and the Dutch DJ duo Firebeatz . The track belongs to the big room genre. Rage received strong positive reviews. In May 2015 the single Blinded By the Light followed , which for the first time shows a progressive house drop alone. The singer of the piece was not named. The song has been described as his best production to date and has been particularly praised for the vocals and melodic main part. During the live TV broadcast of the three-day festival, Jordan was named the best newcomer by the music company “ BigCityBeats ”.

In the late summer of 2015, Jordan released the song Lost Words on "Spinnin 'Records". Like many of his earlier singles, the track has been described as mystical. For Lost Words he used the vocal cuts, which were very popular at the time, and producers like Jay Hardway and R3hab have already been criticized for their use , because their tracks would be too similar to those of Garrix, as these vocal cuts were first used by Forbidden Voices and The Only Way Is Up built in. Lost Words, on the other hand, was not criticized in this regard and was described as a good mix of electro and progressive house. The premiere took place on June 20, 2015 at the EDC Festival in Las Vegas together with Martin Garrix.

2016 to 2017: Separation of "Spinnin 'Records" & "Goldkit Records"

After Martin Garrix announced his separation from his 360 degree contract with "Spinnin 'Records" in August 2015, Jordan did the same in the spring of 2016. He was also committed to the label in all areas and here, too, “Spinnin '” tried a lot to keep him there. After the releases of the two free tracks Feel the Power , which were created in collaboration with Stino and All Night were released, Julian Jordan said goodbye to "Spinnin '" and immediately got in touch with Hardwell .

He produced the electro house song Pilot in February and March 2016 , which was released on April 4, 2016 on Hardwell's record label "Revealed Recordings". With A Thousand Miles a much quieter designed single was released in collaboration with singer Ruby Prophet. The track is the first release on his own record label "Goldkit Records", an imprint of Armin van Buuren's " Armada Music ". The song Rebound followed as a free download . In the summer of 2016, Julian Jordan released the song Midnight Dancers , which was based on the future bass style popular at the time . In autumn 2016, he presented a collaboration with his childhood friend Martin Garrix for the first time since 2016. This is called Welcome and was part of both his EP and Julian Jordan's album It's Julian Jordan , which was released in December 2017. With Find Love , another single was released parallel to the album.

In 2017 he started with the songs Always and Say Love , which are based on quieter character traits. At the same time, the design of his record label "Goldkit" changed. Around the middle of the year Jordan released two electro and big room- heavy tracks with Saint and Chinook . In September 2017 Julian Jordan released the song Night of the Crowd in collaboration with Steff Da Campo as part of the first Goldkit EP. The future bass track Light Years Away followed on November 10, 2017 , which was recorded together with TYMEN.

2018: "Stmpd-Rcrds"

Julian Jordan has been under contract with the Stmpd Rcrds label since 2018 . In March 2018 he released the single Zero Gravity together with the Dutch producer Alpharock . In September 2018 the single Attention followed , which he recorded together with the Australian DJ and producer Timmy Trumpet . The publication took place under "Goldkit" was published. In October 2018 the track Never Tired of You was released , which was created in collaboration with the Swedish songwriter duo The Companions and reached over 3 million listeners on Spotify. A month later, the solo single Tell Me The Truth was released , followed by the song Glitch , which marked his third collaboration with Martin Garrix and was his most successful release of the year with around 15 million plays.

2019 and 2020: Bass House and Pop

In February 2019 he released the single Need You , whose vocals were contributed by the Spanish singer Thomas Leithead-Docherty, alias SMBDY. While he represented a more commercial style with Need You , he served the bass house genre with the song Backfire , produced together with Seth Hills . The song Oldskool , which the musician released as a solo single in May 2019, could also be classified into this. In June 2019 the single To The Wire was released , in which he let summery sounds flow. The track was sung by the British singer-songwriter JHart, while Jordan was supported by British pop producer Chris Loco. In autumn 2019 he returned to the electro house genre with the tracks Bassline and Next Level . The latter reached around 3 million Spotify listeners.

At the end of January 2020, the bass house track Oh Lord was released in collaboration with the Canadian Daijo . The following month, the pop song Love You Better was released , the vocals of which was contributed by The Voice Holland participant Kimberly Fransens. After the single Destination , which was once again more influenced by bass house, the Future Bounce Song Without You was released in April 2020 . He produced this in collaboration with the Dutch producer Brooks .
