BigCityBeats (dt. Urban beats ) is a German, called " Night Life - brand ", which in many areas around the area of electronic dance music is active (EDM). The company began as a radio station in 2004 and also founded a record label of the same name in the same year. In 2006 they expanded to include music festivals such as the World Club Dome , concerts and other events.
history
2004–2008: beginnings & expansion
BigCityBeats was founded by Bernd Breiter on March 1st, 2004 as a radio station. The name is meant to metaphorically describe the feeling that the weekend is approaching. Breiter described it with the words freedom and self-determination. As a result of the successful weekly broadcast on BigFM , the company began to expand into its own music distribution. This happened with "BigCityBeats Recordings", which was founded as a label through a contract with the record label "Indigo Records". The first publication is a compilation that appeared in November 2004 under the title BigCityBeats Vol. 1. The track list included songs in the field of electro-house by Eric Prydz and Armand Van Helden, among others . The BigCityBeats compilation series continues to this day.
In 2005 BigCityBeats presented their own stage for the first time at the Street Parade . In 2006 they held the three-day Island White Beach Festival in Frankfurt am Main for the first time. This is supposed to simulate a beach party in Ibiza. Due to the success of the festival, the company began to focus on other different events. Both at the events and in the press area, they received strong support from the German DJ Sven Väth . Since 2007 the record label has published the music on the online portal Beatport, which has achieved DJ promotion. The first digital single releases benefited the German DJ and producer Jerome Isma-Ae together with Tom Novy .
In 2008 the label celebrated its first world hit with the release of a new recording of the song Infinity by the Guru Josh project in collaboration with the German DJ Klaas and were in the top 10 of the charts in almost 20 countries. In parallel to their success with Infinity , they held the Island Festival for the third time. They started a club tour through Germany and at the same time carried out the Sea of Love and the Club Music Festival, among other things. They also reached number one on the US iTunes charts with the tenth edition of the BigCityBeats compilation.
2009–2012: Expansion & deal with Kontor Record
In 2009 BigCityBeats started with the end of broadcasting their radio show on Big.FM. In an interview with Beatblogger, Breiter stated that the company wanted to reinvent itself. The five-year birthday party at the Cocoon Club in Frankfurt will begin . With a renovation of the club or an extension to five floors and the installation of a new, larger lighting system. The partnerships with RadioGroup and RauteMusik .FM formed further changes in spring 2009 . 2013–2015: World success with the World Club Dome
For the summer of 2013, they focused on the first edition of the World Club Dome . This is to mark the ninth birthday of the company and will take place on June 9, 2013. The first advance booking stage caused a server breakdown. During the weekend, David Guetta , Tiësto and Hardwell performed in Frankfurt's Commerzbank-Arena . For the third edition of the World Club Dome in 2015, a partnership was established with the free TV channel RTL II , which broadcast parts of the festival. Among other things, live performances and interviews with David Guetta and Hardwell as well as follow-me-arounds with Le Shuuk and Oliver Pocher could be seen.
In 2015 the first winter edition of the World Club Dome was held. This was done in cooperation with Hardwell and his Revealed Recordings colleague Kill the Buzz . The festival was held in the Gelsenkirchen Veltins-Arena . With over 40,000 visitors, they broke the record for the largest DJ set as well as that of the first concert to fill an entire stadium. The tickets were sold out within 3 days. However, there was criticism regarding the organization. It was said that despite valid tickets, admission was no longer granted and the security had aggression problems and simply nothing went according to plan, so many fans in social networks.
2016: 12th anniversary and other events
In April 2016 they celebrated their 12th birthday retrospectively in the Festhalle in Frankfurt. In this regard, they invited Axwell Λ Ingrosso and Le Shuuk, among others, as a support act, who played in front of almost 7,000 visitors. It is considered to be the largest birthday party to date that took place in Frankfurt.
They also announced that they would officially bring Tomorrowland to Germany for the first time. The news quickly became irritating. The reason for this was a misinterpretation, because the motto "Unite - Mirror to Tomorrowland" should reflect that the festival will be broadcast in a live stream. While BigCityBeats took care of the display in Germany, other events of this kind took place in Mexico, Japan and India, among others. The number of visitors was over 30 thousand, which meant that the tickets were sold out. The festival was broadcast live on a screen in the Gelsenkirchen Veltins-Arena. The entire arena was decorated in the style of Tomorrowland and the entire stage including lighting and pyrotechnics was recreated. Some DJs, including Laidback Luke , Don Diablo and Robin Schulz , were flown in from Tomorrowland by helicopter to play at Schalke. Le Shuuk, who over the years became a face of BigCityBeats, also performed. The sets by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike , Nicky Romero and Afrojack were broadcast . The tickets for the 2017 edition were also sold out.
On June 16, 2016, the tour operator TUI announced that the Mein Schiff 2 will set sail into the Mediterranean from April 25 to 29, 2017 as part of the World Club Dome . She will head for Mallorca, Barcelona and Ibiza with the title “World Club Cruise” and 7 stages. The line-up included Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, W&W and Robin Schulz, who “ hosted ” the event .
The Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell announced during his appearance at the World Club Dome 2016 that his last show in the course of his "I Am Hardwell - United We Are Tour" on August 27, 2016 in cooperation with BigCityBeats at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg would take place. At the beginning of October 2016, BigCityBeats opened together with its Asian partner MPC Partners Co. Ltd. an office in Seoul. With this cooperation, a European-Asian version of the different sections of BigCityBeats is to be brought into being. After the signing of the contract between Bernd Breiter from BigCityBeats CEO, Yangkyu Ahn from "MPC Partners Co., Ltd.", the city of Incheon with Mayor Jeongbok Yoo and the Incheon Tourism Association on behalf of Joonkee Hwang, the planning for the first South Korean edition of the BigCityBeats World Club Dome started. The venue will be the Incheon Munhak Stadium in South Korea.
On November 12, 2016, the second Winter Edition of the World Club Dome was held. The Belgian brother duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike played a live set lasting several hours as part of their “Bringing the World the Madness” tour. With over 45 thousand visitors, the record of Hardwell's biggest DJ concert from the previous year was broken. A third of all available tickets were sold after just 24 hours. In addition to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Wolfpack, Le Shuuk and MATTN also appeared as support acts. The criticism was similar to that of Hardwell, with which too many visitors are addressed to too little space, miserable organization and technical problems.

BigCityBeats entered the Asian market for the first time on April 15, 2017. The official pre-party was held at Club Octagon in Seoul to kick off the World Club Dome Korea, which will take place for the first time on September 22nd to 24th, 2017 in the Incheon Munhak Stadium . The headliner of the evening was Le Shuuk .
At the end of April 2017, the BigCityBeats World Club Cruise set sail with the German shipping company TUI for the first time. In cooperation with the German tour operator TUI Cruises, Mein Schiff 2 was converted into a floating club. Almost 2,000 visitors celebrated on 7 floors. The World Club Dome offshoot also took place in South Korea for the first time.
The third edition of the World Club Dome in the Winter Edition took place on November 11, 2017. As in previous years, the DJ-Mag number one played here. The youngster Martin Garrix took this place accordingly . In addition to BigCityBeats face Le Shuuk CMC $, Brooks and Justin Mylo and Julian Jordan appeared as support acts . The event counted over 38,000 visitors.
Current ideas include WCD Pool Sessions, a festival in the outdoor stadium pool in Frankfurt, a Boeing 747 Club Jet, and their own BigCityBeats Hotels.
Radio program
During the week, different DJs usually play from 0:00 to 3:00. These usually correspond to a mixture of future and progressive to deep house, in order to form a transition to the next item on the program. From 3:00 to 6:00 the “deep-in-the-nite” mix starts.
