The GHC Junior Heavyweight Championship (in German GHC (Global Honored Crown) Junior Heavyweight Championship ) is a wrestling title for individual wrestlers at Pro Wrestling NOAH . The title has the status of a world championship, as it was also defended in the USA and is officially subject to a weight limit of 100 kg (equivalent to 220 American pounds). As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline .
history
Like the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship from New Japan Pro Wrestling , this title was also introduced for lighter and technically better wrestlers. It was fought in a tournament on June 24, 2001 on the NOAH Navigation to the bright Destination - Day 10 show . Yoshinobu Kanemaru defeated Juventud Guerrera in the final to become the first title holder. Over time the title has become one of the most respected weight limit wrestling titles in the world due to the entertainment and quality value of the title matches. On May 30, 2003, he also achieved the status of a world championship when the title was defended by then champion Michael Modest at a show of the now closed American promotion Pro Wrestling IRON in Cloverdale , California against Vito Thomaselli. The title has also already been fought at the more well-known US promotion Ring of Honor or the German promotion Westside Xtreme Wrestling , with which Pro Wrestling NOAH works closely.
Current title holder
The current GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion is Hajime Ohara in his first reign. He defeated Taiji Ishimori on The First Navig. 2017 on January 7, 2017 in Tokyo to win the vacant title.
