The GHC Heavyweight Championship (in German GHC (Global Honored Crown) Heavyweight Championship ) is the highest wrestling title for individual wrestlers in the Japanese wrestling promotion Pro Wrestling NOAH . The title was introduced on April 15, 2001 and has the status of a world championship as it has also been defended outside of Japan , e.g. B. in the USA . As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline .

history

The title was introduced on April 15, 2001. It was fought out at the Show Navigation for the Victory - Day 18 in Tokyo in a tournament that the then president and founder of the promotion Mitsuharu Misawa won and thus became the first title holder. He defeated Yoshihiro Takayama in the final. Due to Misawa's popularity, the title quickly gained credibility and prestige over the years. The GHC Heavyweight Championship is considered one of the most respected wrestling titles, both in Japan and abroad. Naomichi Marufuji's title was defended against Nigel McGuiness on September 16, 2006 in New York at Glory by Honor V of the US wrestling promotion Ring of Honor , which earned the title world status . The title is the highest title in doctoral studies and has already been defended in Mexico, England and Germany.
