Cloverdale is a city in Sonoma County in the US state of California with 6,831 residents. The urban area extends over 6.5 km².

Cloverdale is the northernmost city in the San Francisco Bay Area . It is located 135 km north of San Francisco and is connected to it by US Route 101 . A few hundred meters to the east, the Russian River flows past the city in a north-south direction .

Cloverdale is part of the Alexander Valley AVA , a major wine region .
