Big Japan Pro-Wrestling ( Japanese 大 日本 プ ロ レ ス , Dainihon Pro-Wrestling , BJW or BJPW) is a Japanese wrestling promotion that was founded in 1995 by Shinya Kojika. The short name is Big Japan .
history
BJPW belongs to the series of so-called hardcore leagues . The promotion is therefore on the same level as Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling , IWA Japan or W * ing and has focused from the beginning on so-called hardcore and death matches , which were developed from the " garbage wrestling style ".
In 1999 and 2000, BJPW's wrestling style was considered the "best death match wrestling" around the world. The matches between Ryuji Yamakawa and Tomoaki Honma became the epitome of the integration of garbage elements in a technically first-class wrestling match. Wrestlers like Honma, Yamakawa, Shadow WX and Winger made the league extremely successful. While under Mr. Pogo the main focus of the wrestling shows was still mainly on blood and violence, the style slowly changed.
Big Japan achieved its greatest fame through its collaboration with the American promotion Combat Zone Wrestling by John Zandig, which began in early 2000. This collaboration lasted two years and was an excellent business decision for both leagues at the beginning. However, observers say today that BJPW was taken advantage of by CZW and that in the end a burned-out market was left. The old US stars like Mike Samples and Abdullah the Butcher had left BJPW and the new stars like Zandig and Wifebeater no longer competed in Japan. Domestic stars like Ryuji Yamakawa were seriously injured during this period, so business for BJPW collapsed. So for a long time BJPW faced insignificance.
After a few years of poor garbage orientation, Big Japan has been an insider tip on the scene again since 2006. Today, BJPW has new and league-owning stars with the likes of Takashi Sasaki, Jaki Numazawa and Ryuji Ito. With the old comrades-in-arms like Shadow WX and Jun Kasai you round off with the integration of newer American death-match stars like Madman Pondo, 2 Tuff Tony, Necro Butcher and Masada . The Korakuen Hall is now regularly sold out again.
