The TNA King of the Mountain Championship was a wrestling title for individual wrestlers of the US wrestling promotion TNA . The title was announced on October 23, 2008 at TNA iMPACT! Introduced as the TNA Legends Championship . The title was later renamed "TNA Global Championship" and "TNA Television Championship". As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline .
history
The title was introduced during a feud between the young talent (the TNA Frontline) and senior wrestling veterans (the Main Event Mafia) of TNA Wrestling. Booker T carried a steel suitcase with him during the weeks of the feud. At TNA iMPACT! on October 23, 2008 Booker T took the title belt out of the steel case and presented it as the "TNA Legends Championship". He then declared himself first champion. He went on to say that the title is his and that he need only defend it if he wants to. On March 15, 2009, AJ Styles defeated him at the major Destination X event to win the title. In the Impact issue of March 19, 2009, AJ Styles was named the first TNA Grand Slam Champion because he won the World Heavyweight Championship , the TNA World Tag Team Championship , the TNA X Division Championship and the Legends Championship. Thereupon Jim Cornette announced that the title is now an officially controlled title by TNA due to the previously concluded contract between Bookter T and AJ Styles. In the October 29, 2009 issue of Impact, reigning champion Eric Young renamed the title "TNA Global Championship" and announced that he would not defend the title on US soil or against an American wrestler. Shortly thereafter, the renaming of TNA Wrestling was recognized. Similar titles are the WCW TV Championship and the WWF European Championship , the latter was even originally awarded according to similar specifications. On July 29, 2010, the title was renamed TNA Television Championship . On July 3, TNA Executive Director Kurt Angle declared the title inactive. Shortly before Slammiversary XIII on June 28, 2015, TNA announced that the title would be fought out under the name TNA King Of The Mountain Championship and thus reactivated. In the Impact issue of August 18, which was recorded on August 12, the TNA King of the Mountain Champion Lashley , who was also TNA World Heavyweight and TNA X Division Champion , wanted to combine the three titles. This request was denied by TNA President Billy Corgan , whereupon Lashley threw the TNA X Division Championship and TNA King of the Mountain Championship to the ground. The following day, the all-new Impact Grand Championship was unveiled, which will replace the TNA King of the Mountain Championship , thus permanently deactivating the TNA King of Mountain Championship .
