The WCW World Television Championship (in German WCW TV World Championship ) was a wrestling title from World Championship Wrestling . The title was fought out in the middleweight division. The addition of "Television" to the name meant that the title could only change carriers in matches recorded for television.

history

The title was originally called the Mid-Atlantic TV Championship and became known as the NWA World TV Championship after Mid-Atlantic Wrestling joined the NWA . When the National Wrestling Alliance no longer existed as an independent league from January 1991, the NWA World Television title (which emerged from the NWA National Television title in 1984) was renamed WCW World TV Championship . The first title holder was Arn Anderson on January 14, 1991 .

The television title was worn by the following wrestlers, among others: Dusty Rhodes , Sting , Lex Luger , Steve Austin , Chris Benoit , Último Dragón or Chris Jericho .

In 1999 the title was abolished.

At WCW Thunder on February 16, 2000 an attempt was made to re-establish the television title with an associated storyline in the programs, but this did not succeed. The title was permanently deactivated on April 10, 2000.
