Keiji Mutoh ( Japanese 武 藤 敬 司 , Mutōh Keiji ; born December 23, 1962 in Fujiyoshida , Yamanashi Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese wrestler, wrestling promoter and chairman of the wrestling association All Japan Pro Wrestling , AJPW for short.
Career
His career began in April 1984 in the NJPW - Dōjō . He made his debut against Masahiro Chono. In the mid-80s he performed in Florida for a long time , where he became the first real high flyer in America. Muto mostly played the Great Muta in the USA, the stereotypical role of the Japanese heels (facepaint, martial arts, green fog). In 1989 he came to the NWA and had feuds there with Ric Flair and Sting , and was even cheered, which was a novelty for the Japanese at the time. His handspring elbow was probably responsible for this. He was also part of the New World Order .
In the 1990s, Muto, as a member of the "3 Musketeers" (alongside Chono & Shinya Hashimoto), was one of the main people responsible for this golden decade. In 1998 he became relatively bald and has only been seen bald since then. After 15 years with countless Moonsaults, he had to change his style because his knees were hardly able to bear any weight. So he created z. B. the Shining Wizard, who should soon find countless imitators. In 2002 Muto left New Japan and switched to competitor AJPW. There he became a favorite of the owner Motoko Baba. Motoko Baba later surrendered power to Mutoh.
In October 2004, he won the All Japan Champion Carnival Tournament. His role as All Japan Booker is very controversial. Since August 2005 he has also been at Wrestle One. In 2006 he competed in Mexico for the first time with his Great Muta Gimmick. At the beginning of 2007 he was also booked for his first gig in Europe, but the 1PW league went bankrupt shortly before. The RQW league took over the bookings of the AJPW wrestlers, so that his European debut still took place. In 2007 he got his first singles success in a long time when he won the Champion Carnival for the third time. He made his debut for Hustle in July 2007 as Great Muta. Despite being in his best physical shape in years, he failed to win the Triple Crown.
Mutō is considered by experts to be one of the best workers of all time. His Poison Mist , where he spits a green liquid in the opponent's face, is one of the most popular moves among Japanese wrestling fans. The Japanese wrestler Yoshihiro Tajiri also uses this move.
