Ian Richard Hodgkinson (* 30th May 1967 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian wrestler and actor who most recently as Vampiro in the short-lived Wrestling show Wrestling Society X radio station MTV took. He is currently a member of the Guardian Angels directing this group in Mexico City , where he first gained popularity as a wrestler in the late 1980s.

Personal

Hodgkinson grew up in Thunder Bay with two sisters as the son of a single mother. Very tall and strongly built early on, he played ice hockey in his youth . In 1984 he was selected for the team of the Kingston Canadians of the Ontario Hockey League , but retired in the pre-season. Hodgkinson now also has Mexican citizenship. He is divorced and has a daughter.

Career

In 1984 Hodgkinson made his wrestling debut as a jobber at the Promotion World Wrestling Council in Montreal . Three years later, after a phase in which he claims to have worked as a bouncer for a club Mickey Rourkes and as a bodyguard for Milli Vanilli , he went to Mexico, where he competed for the largest local wrestling organizer, the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre . Hodgkinson, who attracted attention with his blue-colored dreadlocks and numerous tattoos, was well received by the audience and, under the ring name El Vampiro Canadiense, became one of the driving forces behind the promotion.

In the late 1990s, Hodgkinson signed a contract with the great American wrestling pormotion World Championship Wrestling . In his doctorate, Hodgkinson, now competing as a vampiro , had feuds against other Mexico imports of the WCW such as Eddie Guerrero , Rey Mysterio or Konnan , but also with Berlyn and Dr. Death . In 2000 Vampiro finally got a feud against the top star of the WCW, Sting . In the same year Vampiro took part in a tournament for the vacant WCW United States title, but was eliminated in the first round against "The Great Muta" , with whom he formed a short-lived tag team a little later . with this team Vampiro received his only WCW title when they were allowed to beat the titleholders "Kronik" ( Brian Adams and Bryan Clark ). The aging Muta and Vampiro had to pass the titles on to Rey Mysterio and Juventud Guerrera the next day . The tag team was then disbanded through a feigned betrayal of Vampiros against Muta, which led to a 3-way match in the WCW pay-per-view "Fall Brawl 2000" between The Great Muta, Sting and Vampiro, which Sting won.

Vampiro was injured in the takeover of WCW by its competitor World Wrestling Entertainment ; his contract was not taken over. Hodgkinson went back to the CMLL, but also joined All Japan Pro Wrestling , where he started again as a tag team with the Great Muta. In 2003 he had a brief stint with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling .

In 2005, Hodgkinson appeared in the Mexican wrestling promotion Asistencia Asesoría y Administración (AAA) , where he was also responsible as a booker for the match schedule. In this organization he was able to win the Rey de Reyes trophy. In addition, he continued to appear in independent doctorates, mostly as a participant in championships.

In early 2007, Hodgkinson was one of the leading figures in the wrestling project Wrestling Society X of the pop broadcaster MTV. Hodgkinson appeared in the project's pilot ; behind the scenes he was also the booker of wrestling matches. Vampiro also became the heavyweight champion of the broadcast format, winning the title against 6-Pac (Sean Waltman) after both were the last in the ring of a Battle Royal . MTV postponed the broadcast of the fourth recorded program because Vampiro got a pyrotechnic effect in the face in the fourth episode of the recorded programs, which seemed irresponsible to the station managers. Episodes five to nine, including the loss of the title Vampiros to Ricky Banderas , were broadcast on the block, episode ten no longer at all.

He has been with Lucha Underground since 2014 .
