The Guardian Angels (ger .: guardian angels ) are a group of volunteers who in New York City began and now in many cities in the United States has established and in other countries.

The Guardian Angels were founded in 1979 by Curtis Sliwa , who works for a fast food chain in the Bronx, New York . He first encouraged employees and young people from the neighborhood to help clean up park and recreational facilities, and later also to support the police in maintaining public safety and order, especially in the subway network and in problem areas. During their patrols, Guardian Angels wear a red beret , a red jacket or a white T-shirt with the Guardian Angels logo as a distinguishing mark.

The Guardian Angels became the neighborhood guards and the cyber angels .

In Germany, the Guardian Angels are as an organization with charitable goals with two Chapters in Hannover and singing present. Her tasks in Germany include, above all, the fight against racism and violence on the streets as well as increasing the citizens' subjective feeling of security. They place great value on their multicultural composition and their tolerance towards all fellow human beings, regardless of race, nationality, religion, political attitude, sexual orientation and age.

The Guardian Angels also provided the loose model for the See Violence Initiative - Help the City of Frankfurt am Main .
