Alexander Wright (born May 17, 1975 in Nuremberg ) is a former German wrestler and today's wrestling trainer in his hometown of Nuremberg. He is a second generation wrestler best known by his ring name Alex Wright . His father, the Englishman Steve Wright, and his uncle Bernard Wright were also successful in wrestling.
Career
Sporty background
Alex Wright was trained in wrestling by his father from the age of three and won the Bavarian youth championship in weightlifting at the age of 10 . In addition, he was also an amateur wrestler and competitive swimmer.
Catch Wrestling Association
Alex Wright's father Steve and his brother Bernard were under contract with the European wrestling organization Catch Wrestling Association . But Wright's debut in wrestling was more of a coincidence: In 1991, the Wrights attended a CWA show in Wuppertal . So they had VIP tickets and wanted to go to the event hall an hour before the official start of admission. The organizer, the former German wrestler and wrestler Peter William , found Alex Wright at 16 years old to be too young for the event. But when Steve and Alex Wright put on an improvised wrestling show, William was more than thrilled by Alex Wright's performance. He used Alex Wright as a "surprise guest" on the show and then offered him a contract. This made Alex Wright the youngest professional wrestler in Germany and well-known in the media .
World Championship Wrestling
He was invited to Schreinemakers , where a WCW agent noticed him: In 1994, at the age of 18, he was invited by WCW and trained in the American style in their wrestling school . A little later he had his first appearances in the house shows , where he is now "the prodigy Alex Wright" was announced as and there Levesque Paul could defeat. He remained completely undefeated for almost a year before losing to then TV champion Arn Anderson at Slamboree in May 1995 .
In the further course of his career he was able to secure both the cruiserweight - as well as the TV - and the tag team title . A head injury forced Alex Wright to take a long break in 1998. During this time, his gimmick was completely redesigned. He returned to the ring as "Berlyn". Berlyn was supposed to portray a Gothic character and verbally abused American wrestlers as “weak Americans”, mostly in German . However, it was more popular with the fans than Nazi , especially since the gunmen of Columbine had a similar appearance.
As a result, there was another change of gimmick and he later entered again under his real name.
Independent
When the WCW filed for bankruptcy in 2001 and was bought by the World Wrestling Federation , Wright was not taken over because he had not signed his contract with WCW, but with AOL / Time Warner and WWF owner Vince McMahon only had WCW contracts in his promotion could take over. Wright finally returned to Germany after nine years in the United States. In 2003 he had his last match in Uelzen ; He turned down two requests from World Wrestling Entertainment because he felt burned out.
End of career or change of career
Alex Wright temporarily withdrew from active activities and worked in a fitness chain in Nuremberg. He went into business for himself at the end of 2006 and founded the wrestling school "The Wright Stuff - Pro Wrestling School" in January 2007 in the Nuremberg district of Katzwang , where his main activity is today. At a tournament of the GWP in 2007 Wright appeared for a one-time match to advertise his wrestling school there. In 2011 he moved his wrestling school to the NEW HotSpot in Heßdorf (near Erlangen), which Wright had specially expanded as a wrestling hall. The NEW HotSpot is Germany's only individually equipped wrestling hall. The NEW HotSpot is the home of the wrestling school "The Wright Stuff" and Wright's wrestling league " New European Championship Wrestling (NEW) ".
