The NEW

The New European Championship Wrestling (NEW) is an in Germany incorporated and domiciled Wrestling - League . This is based in Heßdorf , Franconia , in the Erlangen district. The league was founded by the internationally successful wrestler Alex Wright , who also runs the wrestling school "The Wright Stuff - Pro Wrestling School". In 2010 Christian Flammersberger became a partner in NEW. In 2012 the NEW Office was expanded with Benjamin Jung. Until 2011 the league was in Nuremberg ; since then in Heßdorf. NEW is the only league in Germany that organizes its matches in its own specially equipped wrestling hall called NEW HotSpot. The monthly events are characterized by special, annually recurring topics and / or certain match stipulations (matches with special rules).

history

NEW was founded in 2009 by former WCW World Cruiserweight Champion, WCW World TV Champion and WCW World Tag Team Champion Alex Wright. The basic idea is to offer newcomers to wrestling as well as established wrestlers and above all the students of his wrestling school "The Wright Stuff" a professional platform. The first NEW event with "Hoch Explosiv" took place on October 3rd, 2009 in the sold out Schwabacher Markgrafensaal in front of around 500 spectators.

The league now organizes monthly events in its own wrestling hall, the NEW HotSpot in Heßdorf. Many events have a clear recognition feature and a specific topic, such as B. High Explosive, EXTREME, Deadline etc. All events are professionally recorded and published on DVD and as Video On Demand at Vimeo .

The Wright Stuff

"The Wright Stuff" is the wrestling school founded in 2007 by the " second generation " wrestler Alex Wright. Many of the students trained here have already contested their first public fight, the in-ring debut, at NEW. Among them were several wrestlers who now also regularly appear internationally in other leagues. One of the best-known names from Wright's talent factory is Adrian Severe , who is now under contract with the WWE youth league NXT and competes there under his real name Fabian Aichner. These also include Hakem Wakuur , Juvenile X , TKO and VIP. The wrestling school offers both regular training and high-impact seminars on selected weekends and offers both individual and group training. The training takes place in two professional wrestling rings.

The NEW HotSpot

NEW HotSpot is the name of the league's own wrestling hall in Heßdorf, which was put into operation at the end of 2011. The HotSpot is Germany's only individually equipped wrestling hall. It was developed according to Alex Wright's ideas especially for the requirements of wrestling training and event production. It has a lighting system designed for this purpose, a feed ramp including a video monitor and two permanently installed wrestling rings as well as a restaurant area. A four-meter high steel cage can also be placed on the ring, in which all matches take place at events . Both the wrestling training and all NEW events have been taking place in the NEW HotSpot since the hall opened.

Showdown

Showdown was the name of the NEW wrestling show that was broadcast on the league's YouTube channel. The last issue of NEW Showdown 71 was dated May 24, 2016. Two to three programs were broadcast per month that reported on what was happening in NEW. The programs consisted of various elements:

  • Recap: In the recap, the events of the last event were summarized, in some cases this was also shown with image sections.
  • Promos: The current storylines were deepened with promos and interviews .
  • Match Announcements: The match pairings for the upcoming event have been announced.
  • Occasionally, complete matches were also included free of charge.

At the moment (February 2019) this broadcast format is suspended.

Events

With the exception of a break in January, NEW presents a monthly event, usually on the first Saturday of the month. It is important that a number of events have special features in terms of design and / or match types.

In February there is traditionally a double event, which is held on Friday and Saturday.

The May event “EXTREME” is the most popular event of the NEW year, along with the “Hoch Explosiv” anniversary event. With "EXTREME" traditionally every match has a special stipulation, e.g. B. TLC , Lumberjack Match , Ladder Match , Dogcollar Match or Street Fight. In the latter there are z. B. no disqualification , and since this match is not only fought in the ring, but in the whole hall, there is no countout , and the pinfall can take place anywhere.

In July at “Deadline”, the deadline suitcase in the main event is at stake. This is traditionally a ladder match. The wrestler who reaches the suitcase suspended above the ring first and touches the hall floor with the suspended suitcase wins. He then has one year to redeem it at any time for a title match or another match of his choice.

At “Snakepit” in September there is always a Battle Royal with 30 wrestlers - the winner is in the ring as a challenger for the title in “Hoch Explosiv”.

NEW celebrates its birthday in October with the most important event of the year, "Hoch Explosiv". The most successful event besides "EXTREME" with a regularly sold out hall traditionally has the battle for the NEW World Heavyweight title as the main event. The winner will be determined in a Tables, Ladders & Kendosticks Match (TLK). Tables, ladders and kendo weapons are distributed around the ring and can of course also be used.

At “Internet Wars” in December, fans can vote in advance on the NEW website for certain match stipulations and pairings of opponents.

Cooperation with TV broadcasters

As the only German league so far, NEW has signed an international TV contract. With Fightbox HD , NEW has found a global partner. The channel, which broadcasts around the clock, has specialized in martial arts of all genres and is available in numerous countries worldwide via TV (USA, Poland, Bulgaria, Turkey, India, Slovakia, Czech Republic, France, Romania, Middle East, North Africa, Thailand, England) and / or Internet receivable. The station can be received via satellite via Astra 3B, 23.5 ° East. In Germany, Fightbox can be seen on Magine TV, where NEW is part of the Sport & Action package. The broadcast premiere took place on June 3, 2016 at 10 p.m. (CET) with a one-hour review of Extreme IV with u. a. the Tables Ladders Chairs Match between Adrian Severe and Demolition Davies for the World Heavyweight Championship as the main event. The programs are commented on in English by Don Roid.

At the beginning of 2017, NEW announced a cooperation with the American martial arts platform Fite.tv. It broadcasts worldwide with a special focus on the USA and the major American leagues. All NEW events of 2016 including the kick-off event 2017, "NEW Cold Open", were published there on a weekly basis with the original German commentary and are still available free of charge today - as of September 2017. To promote the deal, SoCal Val and Alex Wright had a video interview .

On March 15, 2017, it was announced to great media coverage that NEW had signed a contract with the Internet broadcaster Rocket Beans TV and that in future the latest NEW events will be broadcast there exclusively once a month. The opening broadcast was on March 25, 2017 at 9.15 p.m. A shortened TV version of the original almost 5-hour double event "NEW Cold Open" was shown. Since then, Rocket Beans TV has been showing the current NEW event mostly every third Saturday of the month at around 10 p.m. The respective recording takes place approx. 7 weeks before the broadcast. The events are usually broadcast in a slightly shortened version on Rocket Beans TV; in individual cases the order of the matches on TV differs from the recording. The cuts mostly affect promo segments or less important fights, and the events are interrupted twice by advertising. The Vimeo version of the respective events is always unabridged and corresponds to the recording sequence.

Since 2019, the shortened TV version of the NEW events has been available free of charge in the Rocket Beans TV media library and the NEW YouTube channel from the Wednesday after the broadcast.

The NEW events in the German version up to and including "NEW Extreme" 2017 were commented on by "Sir" Andreas Wilsdorf and Milosz Sudnik. With the "NEW WAR" 2017 event, Tobias Kühnlein took over the position of Milosz Sudnik. Kühnlein was previously heard as an off-speaker in trailers and event reviews on YouTube. At "NEW WAR 2018" Milosz Sudnik returned as a commentator and replaced "Sir" Andreas Wilsdorf, who went abroad for professional reasons. Since then, Kühnlein and Sudnik have been commenting on the events. Former NEW commentators included today's WWE TV commentators Manu Thiele and Walandi Tsanti.
