Eulenmond is a novel by Hilde Kähler-Timm published by Thienemann-Verlag in 2003 . It is similar to the book Woman on the American Frontier by William Worthington Fowler. Since Hilde Kähler-Timm didn't know that much about the main character of this book, a girl named Janette , she wrote her own novel about a girl named Josie .

content

Josie, her father and her two brothers Harry and John drive a covered wagon to the west and want to build a new farm there. You leave the settlers' trek and take a break in a lonely valley. Soon the male family members go hunting and never come back. They leave the motherless Josie with her dog alone in the valley. At first the girl wants to die, but then she takes courage. She constantly hears her father's voice: "You can do it, my girl!" When winter comes, the men are still not back from the hunt. Josie has to build a wooden hut so she can survive the winter. At the same time an Indian family is seeking refuge. They discover Josie, but they are afraid of her.

When winter is over, meltwater penetrates Josie's hut. Nothing stays dry anymore. Josie goes into her broken covered wagon and rests there. But soon Josie will get sick. She has a high fever. Fortunately, the Indian family found the sick and nursed them back to health. When Josie is well again, the Indians bring the girl back to Fort Walla Walla , where Josie has friends.
