He played American football while at Texas State University . His teammates included Merced Solis and Ted DiBiase, other people who would later make a name for themselves in the wrestling business.

In his father's doctorate, Blanchard initially hired himself as a referee, booker and producer, before becoming an active wrestler himself in 1975. In the first few years he made a name for himself in the Tag Team Dynamic Duo with Gino Hernandez .

1984 it required the for National Wrestling Alliance belonging Jim Crockett Promotion . There he made a name for himself with matches against Ricky Steamboat and Dusty Rhodes , so that he could win the US Heavyweight Title .

In 1985 Blanchard was added to a grouping with Ole Anderson , who played Blanchard's cousin, Arn Anderson and Ric Flair . Under the name The Four Horsemen , they became one of the most successful stables of all time, and their performances attracted large audiences.

Together with Arn Anderson Blanchard won the NWA World Tag Team Championship .

In October 1988 Anderson and Blanchard moved to the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE), where they were also World Tag Team Champions under the name The Brain Busters . With that they had won the two most prestigious tag team titles of the time within a year.

In 1989, Blanchard was on the verge of switching to the rival World Championship Wrestling when it was proven that he was using cocaine . After that he was unable to get a contract with either of the two major North American leagues.

Eventually Blanchard discovered religion for himself and joined the born again Christians . He now works as a priest.

From this point onwards, he was no longer a big wrestler. In the mid-1990s he appeared briefly in the ECW , in which his wrestling style did not fit. In addition, he was allowed - at the side of Barry Windham - to win the NWA World Tag Team Title again, which had lost its importance at this point.
