Ted DiBiase was a second generation wrestler. Both his mother Helen Hild and his stepfather "Iron" Mike DiBiase were wrestlers. After Mike died of a heart attack after a match against Man Mountain Mike on July 2, 1969 and Helen fell into depression, Ted grew up with his grandparents.

Ted has three sons. Michael (from first marriage), Theodor Jr., and Brett (both from current marriage), who are all wrestling.

Wrestling career

Beginnings

He made his debut in 1974 with Mid-South Wrestling , where he performed for the next four years. As early as 1979 he made appearances in the World Wrestling Federation , where he held the North American Champion title. In the next few years he was active in various other doctorates. Mainly at Mid-South Wrestling , the National Wrestling Alliance and All Japan Pro Wrestling , where he won the renowned Real World Tag League alongside Stan Hansen .

WWF

In 1987 DiBiase moved again to the World Wrestling Federation, where he received the gimmick of an arrogant millionaire and the prefix The Million Dollar Man . In addition, he was given a personal bodyguard in Virgil , who often intervened in his matches. In this role, DiBiase was one of the most famous heels in wrestling history. In the next few years he denied feud programs with Randy Savage and especially Hulk Hogan . In 1988, shortly before Wrestlemania IV, he bought the WWF Championship title from André the Giant after he had defeated Hulk Hogan. However, the title was revoked from DiBiase and declared vacant; at WrestleMania IV a tournament for this belt finally took place.

Later in the year DiBiase was able to win the King of the Ring tournament. At the Royal Rumble in 1989 he and Big John Studd were the last remaining in the ring, with Studd supposed to win. In March of the same year DiBiase introduced its own wrestling title, the Million Dollar Championship . After feud programs against Jake Roberts , The Big Boss Man and Roddy Piper , he finally had to surrender the title to his former bodyguard Virgil in 1991, but regained it in August of that year.

From 1992 he formed the tag team Money Inc. together with the IRS , which won the title WWF World Tag Team Champion three times and lost it for the last time on June 19, 1993 to the Steiner Brothers . After a few months in Japan, he announced his retirement as an active wrestler. The reason for his resignation was a severe neck injury that DiBiase had recently suffered. In 1994 he returned to the WWF as the manager of various wrestlers (including Steve Austin , who made his debut as ring master ) and remained in the main events until his departure.

WCW

From 1996 DiBiase was active in World Championship Wrestling and managed the New World Order , the Steiner Brothers and Big Bubba Rogers .

When he discovered Christianity for himself, he withdrew completely from the wrestling business because he could not tolerate the extreme orientation of the time. At the end of the 1990s he founded a Christian wrestling league together with Nikita Koloff , who also belonged to the "born again Christians ".

WWE

In recent years, DiBiase has made a number of guest appearances in the WWE and in April 2006 inducted Sensational Sherri into the WWE Hall of Fame . From March 2005 to October 2006 Ted DiBiase was a consultant for SmackDown! active. In May 2008 he introduced his son Ted Jr. as the new wrestler of the RAW roster. A year later he was guest host of RAW for an evening . On March 27, 2010, DiBiase was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by his sons Ted Jr. and Brett.
