Career
Beginnings
Paul Orndorff began wrestling in 1976 when he signed with Mid-South Wrestling . There he had feuds with Jerry Lawler and Ernie Ladd . In the early 1980s he moved to the National Wrestling Alliance , where Orndorff was allowed to hold the National Heavyweight Title three times .
World Wrestling Federation
In 1984 Paul Orndorff came to the then WWF , where he was given Roddy Piper as a ring companion. One of his first feud partners was Tony Atlas . On March 31, 1985, he contested the main event of Wrestlemania I . Together with Piper hit Orndorff on Hulk Hogan and Mr. T . Out of this, a new feud with Roddy Piper developed. As a result, Orndorff and Hogan formed a tag team . Together they played a few matches until Paul Orndorff faced Hogan, thus evoking one of the most famous and profitable feud programs in wrestling history.
The Orndorff / Hogan feud program lasted half a year and gave fans and management outstanding title matches for their respective interests, such as B. at the Big Event in Toronto in front of 76,000 spectators or the Steel Cage match at Saturday Night's Main Event in 1986. Orndorff was never allowed to defeat Hogan for a WWF title.
In 1987 Paul Orndorff had a feud program with Rick Rude before he retired from wrestling for health reasons.
Universal Wrestling Federation / World Championship Wrestling
In 1990 he made his wrestling comeback in the WCW . Orndorff only played a few matches there.
After leaving the WCW, Orndorff was employed by the UWF founded by Herb Abrams , where he was immediately caught up in a brutal feud with Steve Williams . Shortly before the financial end of the UWF, he left this doctorate and signed again in 1993 with WCW.
After his return to the WCW he formed the tag team Pretty Wonderful with Paul Roma from 1994 , which was allowed to receive the tag team title twice. In 1996 Paul Orndorff injured his arm so badly while executing his finishing move , the Piledriver , that he had to end his career for good. Orndorff was then head coach at WCW Power Plant until 2000 . He also had an onscreen role within the WCW.
