Finishing move

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A finishing move (or finisher ) is an action in wrestling or beat 'em up video games that ends a fight. In wrestling in particular, performing the finishing move increases the dramatic effect. When a finishing move is associated with a particular person or figure, it can become a trademark and is then referred to as a signature move .

Wrestling

In wrestling it is an action that the wrestler uses in almost every match to end a match. Usually these are actions that are already known and also used by other wrestlers, but which are particularly spectacular. There are finishers who end the match immediately ( surrender grips ) and those who aim to weaken the opponent so that a pinfall can occur. The latter are often shown in a sequence of finishers performed one after the other. The name of a wrestler's finishing move is often related to their gimmick , such as: B. at The Big Show ( Show Stopper ), The Undertaker ( Tombstone Piledriver ), Batista ( Batista Bomb ) or the "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase ( Million Dollar Dream ). If a wrestler performs his finishing move, it is the opponent's job to sell it as his toughest technique.

Examples

  • The Sharpshooter from Bret Hart , Chris Benoit, and The Rock is a surrender grip aimed at weakening the legs and back. As this handle became known through Hart, the name was retained for it. He is also used as a finisher by Sting as Scorpion Deathlock, among others .
  • The Atomic Leg Drop by Hulk Hogan is a running leg drop . The opponent is usually in the middle of the ring. With the help of the ring ropes, you take a run-up and let yourself fall on the opponent so that a leg lands on him like a guillotine .
  • The Giant Choke Slam of The Big Show is a Choke Slam . The opponent is lifted into the air with one arm by the neck and then thrown back first onto the ring floor. Due to the size of 2.13 m of The Big Show, it looks particularly martial.
