Robert Rechsteiner (born March 9, 1961 in Bay City , Michigan ), better known as Rick Steiner , is an American wrestler . Rick is well known for appearing on the National Wrestling Alliance , World Championship Wrestling, and the World Wrestling Federation . He performed as a single wrestler and as half of the Steiner Brothers tag team with his younger brother Scott .

Life

Beginnings

Rick Steiner was already a very successful wrestler in his school days at the University of Michigan . He still holds the record of the fastest victory in just 15 seconds there. After college , Rick Steiner decided to take up wrestling professionally and underwent training from Eddie Sharkey .

Career

Rick Steiner completed his first professional fights in the AWA and in Montreal . He then went to UWF, where he formed a team with Buzz Sawyer, Eddie Gilbert and Sting . In the mid-1980s, Rick then moved to the National Wrestling Alliance , where he formed the Varsity Club with Mike Rotunda and Kevin Sullivan .

In 1988 his younger brother Scott Steiner also became a professional wrestler, whereby the two immediately formed a tag team that became known as the Steiner Brothers. They also became Tag Team Champions within a very short time . They also defended this title very successfully in Japan . After Scott Steiner injured himself in 1991, Rick briefly formed a team with Bill Kazmeier.

In December 1992, the Steiner Brothers then moved to the then, as now, largest wrestling league in the world, the World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment), where they also quickly became tag team champions. However, they left the organization after about a year. They went back to Japan, where the two were very successful again.

It wasn't until 1995 that they both came back to the USA , where they initially competed for the ECW a few times until they switched to the WWF's largest competitive league, the WCW , in 1996 . There they were also very successful and held Tag Team Gold until Rick's brother Scott was turned against him by joining the New World Order group at the time. After a feud against his brother, Rick wanted to continue to focus on his solo career, but it had little success, so he gradually disappeared from the scene.

About a year later he made his comeback in the WCW by intervening in a match by his brother Scott and helping him to the United States Champion title . However, the Steiner Brothers were not reunited. Rick continued to focus on his solo career, which culminated in winning the WCW Television title , which he won two times in a row, but lost again just as quickly. At this point too, Rick Steiner went downhill again, only winning the United States Heavyweight title, which he only wore for 1 month, slowed his further career low point. But it happened again that Rick Steiner once again disappeared from the scene.

After the WCW was bought by the WWF and he could not find a job at the WWF, he wrestled for a while on an independent level until he went to the then newly opened league ( TNA Wrestling ) in 2002 , where he was relatively unsuccessful and left it again. After leaving TNA Wrestling, he went to WWA, which closed its doors shortly afterwards. Then Rick Steiner appeared again in independent leagues, this time with more success. He managed to win the WLW (World League Wrestling) heavyweight title twice. In mid-May 2007, Rick made his comeback in the TNAW League at the side of his brother Scott Steiner, with which the two brought the Steiner Brothers back to life. A feud against Team 3D (formerly known as Dudley Boyz ) began, but had to be interrupted briefly because Scott was injured. Scott soon recovered and the feud continued.
