Mike Rotunda , origin. Lawrence Michael Rotunda (born March 30, 1958 in St. Petersburg , Florida ) is a former American wrestler who is best known as a tag team wrestler under his ring name Irwin R. Schyster, or IRS for short . Rotunda held among other wrestling titles five times the World Tag Team title of the World Wrestling Federation (now World Wrestling Entertainment ).

Career

1981-1987

After graduating from Syracuse University , Rotunda began his career in Florida Championship Wrestling in 1981 . There he formed a tag team with his brother-in-law Barry Windham . In 1984 they switched to the World Wrestling Federation and competed there as the US Express . After defeating Dick Murdoch and Adrian Adonis , Rotunda and Windham were able to secure the WWF World Tag Team titles for the first time . Then began a feud with The Iron Sheik and Nikolai Volkoff , the titled loss of US Express at Wrestlemania I ended. In June 1985 she won the WWF World Tag Team title for the second time against Brutus Beefcake and Greg Valentine . After Windham left WWF, Mike Rotunda tagged Dan Spivey with little success .

1987-1991

In 1987 Rotunda left the WWF and returned to Florida Championship Wrestling, where he won their NWA Florida Heavyweight Championship . The next year he moved to Jerry Crockett Promotions within the National Wrestling Alliance . There he formed the Varsity Club with Kevin Sullivan and Rick Steiner , a stable with a wrestling background. Dan Spivey and Steve Williams joined them later. With the latter, Rotunda won the NWA World Tag Team title . In 1988 he won the NWA World Television Title as a single wrestler , which he had to pass on to Sting just under a year later .

1991-1995

In 1991 Rotunda returned to WWF, where he received a new gimmick that clearly defined him as a heel : Irwin R. Schyster , whose initials IRS are the abbreviation for the US tax investigation , was, according to the invented biography, a former tax collector for the Internal Revenue Service and insulted opponents and the public as “taxcheaters” (tax evaders). This unsympathetic figure and her tag team partner, the equally polarizing “Million Dollar Man” Ted DiBiase , formed the tag team Money Inc. , which received the WWF tag team title three times. After DiBiase's career ended due to injury, Mike Rotunda performed as a single wrestler. During this time he had feuds against Razor Ramon , whose gold chain jewelry he wanted to tax according to the storyline, Tatanka , from whom he demanded gift tax on a chief headdress presented by Wahoo McDaniel and Chief Jay Strongbow , and The Undertaker , where Schyster knew the contents of the urn and wanted to tax. After a real back injury in a match against Lex Luger , Rotunda left the WWF.

1995-2020

From 1995 to 2000 Rotunda was under contract with World Championship Wrestling , but could not build on his earlier successes as Irwin R. Schyster. After that he was active in Japan, where he was allowed to win the Real World Tag League of All Japan Pro Wrestling at the side of Steve Williams and then ended his career at IWA Japan, where he announced his retirement in 2004 to join his wife run a security company.

Since 2006 Rotunda has been under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment again , mostly behind the scenes. In the fifteenth anniversary broadcast of the WWE main television program Raw on December 10, 2007, he took part as Irwin R. Schyster in a Battle Royal , in which Schyster finally had the victory bought from his former tag team partner Ted DiBiase, one Allusion to his acquisition of the WWF World Heavyweight title from André the Giant almost twenty years earlier. On April 15, 2020, WWE announced that Mike Rotunda had been fired, likely to save costs due to the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) raging in the United States at the time.

Private life

Rotunda is married to Stephanie, a daughter of WWE Hall of Fame member Robert Deroy Windham and sister of former wrestlers Barry and Kendall Windham . The marriage resulted in the two sons Windham and Taylor, who are now also active as wrestlers under the ring names Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas , as well as the daughter Mika.
