Joseph Luke Scarpa (born October 4, 1928 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † April 3, 2012 ), better known by his ring name Chief Jay Strongbow , was an American wrestler . One of his greatest successes was receiving the WWF Tag Team Championship three times .

Career

Beginnings

Scarpa made his debut as Joe Scarpa in 1947 . From then on he appeared in various promotions , for example in different territories of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). His first title, the NWA Gulf Coast Heavyweight Championship , won it on May 3, 1960th

World Wide Wrestling Federation / World Wrestling Federation

Since 1970 Scarpa was active as Chief Jay Strongbow in the then World Wide Wrestling Federation (now WWE ). On May 22, 1972 , he won the WWWF Tag Team Championship with Sonny King .
