WWF European Championship
The WWE European Championship was a wrestling championship of the WWE awarded and was on individual wrestlers. The championship was awarded for the first time on February 26, 1997 in Berlin to The British Bulldog , who was able to defeat Owen Hart in the tournament finals. On July 22, 2002, this was combined in a ladder match with the WWE Intercontinental Championship and then discontinued. As is common in wrestling, the award was made according to a previously determined storyline .
history
On February 26, 1997 in Berlin , The British Bulldog defeated Owen Hart in the tournament finals to become the first title holder. Since the WWF court ruling, WWE is no longer allowed to use the abbreviation WWF. Therefore, the title was renamed WWE European Championship in 2002 .
On July 22, 2002, the title was combined with the WWE Intercontinental Championship at the WWE Show Raw . The then Intercontinental Champion Rob Van Dam defeated the European Champion Jeff Hardy on July 22, 2002 . He combined both titles to the Intercontinental Championship and was thus the last title holder.
