David Daniel Otunga Sr. (born April 7, 1980 in Elgin , Illinois , USA ) is an American wrestler and former reality TV actor. He is currently under contract with the WWE and appears regularly on their wrestling shows. In 2013 he made his acting debut in the film The Call - Don't hang up! . His greatest achievement so far was winning the WWE Tag Team Championship twice .
Private life
Otunga is a graduate of Harvard Law School . He was engaged to singer and actress Jennifer Hudson until 2017. They have one son.
Wrestling career
World Wrestling Entertainment (since 2008)
In November 2008, Otunga signed a development contract with WWE and made his debut in Florida Championship Wrestling on May 29, 2009 under the name Dawson Alexander.
In February 2010, WWE announced that David Otunga would become a part of WWE NXT and assigned him R-Truth as its pro. On June 1, he moved there into the final, where David Otunga lost to Wade Barrett .
After the first season of NXT was over, all of the NXT rookies debuted on RAW as The Nexus . In the following shows they got a WWE contract as part of the storyline . In Bragging Rights (2010) Otunga was allowed to win the WWE Tag Team Championship together with John Cena , but had to hand it over to his Nexus colleagues Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel a day later in RAW . With Michael McGillicutty he won this title from Kane and Big Show a second time on May 23, 2011 on RAW. They lost the title on August 22, 2011 in RAW to Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston .
After the tag team was broken up, Otunga acted as legal counsel for former RAW and SmackDown general manager John Laurinaitis and several other heel superstars.
As part of the newly introduced roster split in 2016, he switched to SmackDown to comment on the show alongside John "Bradshaw" Layfield and Mauro Ranallo.
Outside of wrestling
David Otunga was a contestant on I Love New York 2 and was nicknamed "Punk". This season he took third place.
