history
Lenexa was founded in 1869. 12 years earlier, James Butler Hickok became the first white American to acquire land in the area of this parish. An Indian tribe lived in this area. The chief's widow named "Na-Nex-Se Blackhoof" sold 6.500 km² of the Kansas Shawnee Indian territory to the US government in a contract in 1854. The old Santa Fe Trail, which also touched the southeastern part of Lenexa towards Santa Fe (New Mexico) , began a little further west . In 1865, the Kansas and Neosho Valley Railroad Company bought land on which they built a railroad. In 1869 the connection with a train station in the area of today's city was completed, which is also the date of foundation for the city. The name "Lenexa" is borrowed from "Na-Nex-Se". In the further course Lenexa developed into a residential town in the metropolitan area Kansas City / Overland Park.
