Dean Jonathan Muhtadi (born July 17, 1986 in Alexandria , Virginia , United States ), better known by his ring name Mojo Rawley , is an American wrestler and former American football player in the position of defensive lineman. He is currently under contract with WWE and appears on their show RAW . His greatest success so far was winning the André-the-Giant-Memorial - Battle-Royal at WrestleMania 33 on April 2, 2017.

American football career

Beginnings / college

Muhtadi initially played for four years in the American football team at TC Williams High School and occupied various positions on the field. He also exercised the role as a punter , where he broke his school's record with a 76 yard punt against West Springfield High School.

In 2004 and 2005, Muhtadi played for Christopher Newport University in Newport News , Virginia . After contracting Pfeiffer glandular fever , he missed his entire first season and was placed on the defensive line positions in the second year . He then moved to the University of Maryland in College Park , Maryland , where he received a scholarship and a position as a starter on their American football team Maryland Terrapins. In 2008 he scored the third most sacks for the Terrapins and became the second player on his team in the previous 15 years to fill all positions on the defensive line in one game.

NFL

On May 4, 2009, following the NFL Draft 2009, Muhtadi was signed by the Green Bay Packers , a team of the National Football League , as an Undrafted Free Agent after he was one of the top three among the 25 participants in a training camp had excellent. In a game of the pre-season on September 3, 2009 against the Tennessee Titans , he forced a ball loss of the opposing team, which led to a touchdown of their own. The following day, however, he was not called into his team's roster for the upcoming NFL season.

On January 20, 2010, he instead signed a contract with the Arizona Cardinals . During a pre-season training camp, Muhtadi sustained an injury and was therefore placed on the Injured Reserve List for the following season.

Career in wrestling

NXT

It took Muhtadi an 18 month hiatus to recover from various injuries. As a result, he turned down offers to return to the NFL from 2012 and signed instead a deal with the Wrestling - Promotion WWE . He was used in the development league NXT Wrestling and was given the ring name Mojo Rawley . His first match he completed on 30 August 2012 in a house show NXT when he could defeat Dante Dash. On May 2, 2013, he made his debut as a participant in a Battle Royal in the TV shows.

In July 2014, Muhtadi competed in a tag team tournament with Bull Dempsey as a partner , the winners of which were new challengers to the NXT Tag Team Championship . However, they were eliminated from the tournament in the first round against The Vaudevillains , consisting of Aiden English and Simon Gotch. Then he played a feud against Dempsey, whom he in a match at the NXT major event NXT Takeover: Fatal-4-Way on September 11, 2014 was defeated .

From May 2015 he formed the tag team The Hype Bros with Zack Ryder . In August and September 2015, they participated in a tournament for tag teams known as the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic . They defeated Alexander Wolfe and Kona Reeves in the first round , but were eliminated in the quarterfinals by Chad Gable and Jason Jordan.

On July 19, 2016, Muhtadi was appointed to SmackDown Live in 57th place in the WWE Draft , which was held for the first time since 2011 , and thus rose to the main roaster. He made his debut on July 24, 2016 at the major Battleground event , when he came to the aid of Ryder, who continued to be attacked by him after an unsuccessful match for the WWE United States Championship against title holder Rusev . On December 31, 2019, he won the WWE 24/7 Championship from R-Truth , but lost it back to him that same night. On January 13, 2020, he again won the WWE 24/7 Championship from R-Truth. The reign lasted 4 days and lost the title in a WWE Live event against Truth, but he won it back the same night. On January 18, 2020, he lost the title again to Truth, but was able to win it again. On January 19, 2020, he lost the title again to Truth, but was able to win it again. He lost the title on January 27, 2020 after being pinned by R-Truth disguised as a cheeseburger. However, he was able to regain the title quickly. On February 10, 2020, he then lost the title to Riddick Moss. On April 4, 2020, he won the R-Truth title. However, he lost the title again a day later to Rob Gronkowski.
