Rockpile was a British rock band from the pub rock and new wave scene, whose music was heavily influenced by rock 'n' roll and rockabilly . The band existed in its most famous line-up from 1976 to 1981 and was a joint project of Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe during this time . She played for both artists on their solo albums in the second half of the 1970s, but also released an LP in 1980 under the band name Rockpile .
Band history
The Rockpile story began in 1970 when Dave Edmunds released his biggest hit. The number-one single I Hear You Knocking was officially listed in the UK charts when released by Dave Edmunds' Rockpile . In 1971 Edmunds released his first solo album, which he also called Rockpile . He then went on tour with the musicians who played on this LP as "Dave Edmunds and Rockpile". There were, among others, Edmunds' former love sculpture colleague John Williams, ex-love sculpture and man drummer Terry Williams and guitarist Andy Fairweather-Low (formerly with Amen Corner ). On a second tour, Pick Withers (later with Dire Straits ) replaced Terry Williams. This first Rockpile incarnation was one of the pioneers of the pub rock scene.
Nick Lowe met Edmunds and Terry Williams on the scene when he was still playing for Brinsley Black . Edmunds produced a Brinsley Black album in 1974, and Lowe played on Edmunds' solo album Subtle as a Flying Mallet the following year . In 1976 Billy Bremner joined Lowe, Edmunds and Williams, and the four went on tour (as opening act for Bad Company ) under the name "Rockpile".
The band was featured on the A-side of Mickey Jupp's album Juppanese in 1978 . She also played both Nick Lowe's solo album Labor of Lust and Dave Edmunds' LP Repeat When Necessary in 1979 ; it was not until 1980 that she released an album as Rockpile, Seconds of Pleasure. The LP entered the UK charts on October 18, 1980 and climbed to number 34; a single released (Teacher Teacher) was also a minor hit. The band went on tour together again, but separated in 1981. Edmunds and Lowe went back to their solo projects; Bremner temporarily replaced the late James Honeyman-Scott with the Pretenders and worked as a songwriter , producer and solo artist for Stiff Records ; Terry Williams played for Dire Straits and many others.
For the film Bad Teacher from 2011, the single Teacher Teacher was used as the intro song .
