Eye of the Zombie ( English for eye of the zombie ) is the fifth studio album by the American rock musician John Fogerty , which was released in October 1986.

history

Eye of the Zombie was released a year after Fogerty's successful comeback album Centerfield in 1986. He took over the production and the arrangement himself and also contributed numerous instrumental tracks. After the album was not well received by either the charts or critics, he did not record a new album for eleven years and apart from the Creedence Clearwater Revival- inspired song Change In The Weather , he did not play any of the album at a concert after the Eye of the Zombie Tour in 1986.

All nine titles were written by John Fogerty and have a total length of almost 44 minutes.

reception

criticism

The album was particularly criticized for its production, which was felt to be overly loaded with synthesizers . Specialist critics also noted that the album seemed like a snap and the lyrics were very simple and not very witty. This is how Rolling Stone editor Anthony Decurtis writes about the song Sail Away :

“The tune is clearly meant to reinstate the spiritual calm of 'Goin' Back Home ', but its message - that extraterrestrial escape on a' silent ship 'is the only way to deal with the grim world Fogerty envisions on the rest of the LP - is flatly dispiriting, a cartoon updating of gospel music's yearning for redemption. "

"The song is clearly meant to resume the spiritual calm of 'Going' Back Home ', but his message - that alien escape on a' silent ship 'is just one way of dealing with the horrific world Fogerty is on the rest the LP thinks up - is completely disheartening, a cartoon that aims to renew the longing of gospel music for redemption. "

- Anthony Decurtis (1986)

Hit parade placement

All in all, Eye of the Zombie could not build on the success of its predecessor Centerfield , which achieved several number 1 placements.
