Poco is a country rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1968 .

Band history

Poco was founded by Richie Furay and Jim Messina (both ex Buffalo Springfield ), together with George Grantham (born January 20, 1947) and Rusty Young (both ex Boenzye Creque from Denver ) and Randy Meisner (ex The Poor ).

In 1969 their first album Pickin 'Up the Pieces was released . The albums Poco (1970) and Deliverin ' (1971) followed, on which Timothy B. Schmit replaced Randy Meisner on bass. Messina also left the band and was then quite successful together with Kenny Loggins as Loggins & Messina . Paul Cotton ( Illinois Speed Press ) came to replace the band, whose style shifted a little towards rock 'n' roll .

After the two albums A Good Feelin 'to Know and Crazy Eyes , Furay also left the band to form the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band .

The albums Seven , Cantamos , Head over Heels , Rose of Cimarron and Indian Summer followed , until 1977 Schmit and Grantham left the band and were replaced by Steve Chapman and Charlie Harrison. Schmit replaced Meisner with the Eagles , which meant that their bassists had all played for Poco before.

In the new line-up, the album Legend (1978) was recorded, on which the hits Crazy Love and Heart of the Night were included. After Kim Bullard joined the band, five more albums were released: Under the Gun , (1980) Blue and Gray (1981), Cowboys and Englishmen (1982), Ghost Town (1982) and Inamorata (1984). Then, however, a five-year hiatus began.

In 1989 the album Legacy was recorded in the founding line-up of 1968 (George Grantham, Rusty Young, Jim Messina, Richie Furay and Randy Meisner) and produced by David Cole . It was the band's second gold album after "Legend".

It was not until 2002, after a further 13 year break, that the album Running Horse was released with the line-up Rusty Young, Paul Cotton, George Grantham and Jack Sundrud. In May 2004 there was a spectacular performance in Nashville. In the line-up of George Grantham, Paul Cotton, Rusty Young, Jack Sundrud and Ritchie Furay, the band recorded a CD / DVD (Keep the legend alive). The DVD is also available in Germany under the name Pickin 'Up the Pieces .

With the live album Bareback at Big Sky (recorded in April 2005, released in September 2005) there was a change on the drums. George Grantham, who suffered a stroke during a concert by the band and has since been partially paralyzed, has been replaced by George Lawrence.

The band also toured Denmark, France, Germany and the Netherlands in May 2005. In June 2006 they performed in the Netherlands and Belgium, among others. In December 2006, the live album The Wildwood Sessions was released. This is an acoustic gig by Rusty Young, Paul Cotton and Jack Sundrud.

At the end of 2010 Paul Cotton left the band and was replaced by Michael Webb.
