The 69th Tour de Suisse took place from June 11th to 19th, 2005 . It was held in nine stages over a distance of 1355 kilometers.

Aitor González was the overall winner . Before the start of the last stage, he was still in fourth place, 36 seconds behind Michael Rogers . However, on the climb to the last pass, the Furka Pass , the Spaniard was able to outrun the Australian and won the overall standings by just 22 seconds.

The third stage led to the Austrian tourist resort of Sankt Anton am Arlberg . The fact that the Tyrolean Tourism Association was one of the main sponsors caused quite a stir. In the typically Swiss winter sports resorts of Arosa , Lenk and Verbier, advertising for holidays in Tyrol was omnipresent.
