The 36th Tour de Suisse took place from June 15 to 23, 1972. It led over a prologue, ten stages and a total distance of 1,457 kilometers.
As in 1968 , the overall winner was Louis Pfenninger from Switzerland . The tour started in Zurich with 80 drivers, 44 of whom finished in Olten .
