The 24th Tour de Suisse took place from June 16-22, 1960. It led over seven stages and a total distance of 1,278.5 kilometers.

The overall winner was the Swiss Fredy Rüegg . The tour started in Zurich with 63 drivers, 46 of whom finished in Basel . It was the first time in the history of the Tour de Suisse that Zurich was not the destination.

This year only a few foreign riders took part in the tour, which is why it was dominated by the Swiss riders who finished in the top four places in the overall standings. The most prominent foreign rider Fred De Bruyne retired after a fall during the first stage. Fredy Rüegg laid the foundation for his success when he took the lead from Frenchman Henri Epalle on the second stage . He later suffered a fall, but was able to catch up again and maintain his lead up to the finish in Basel.
