The 16th Tour de Suisse took place from June 14 to 21, 1952. It led over eight stages and a total distance of 1608 kilometers.
The overall winner was the Italian Pasquale Fornara , who subsequently won the Tour de Suisse three more times - in 1954 , 1957 and 1958 - and is thus the record holder (until 2014). The tour started in Zurich with 75 drivers, 45 of whom made it to the finish - also in Zurich .
As in previous years, the two Swiss rivals (the two "K") Ferdy Kübler and Hugo Koblet were paralyzed , from which their rivals Désiré Keteleer and Jean Goldschmit were able to benefit on the first four stages. Koblet had a kidney infection and the tour boss Carl Senn sent a doctor to him with the order: "Make Koblet fit, à tout prix." On this occasion, Koblet is said to have been given an injection with the amphetamine Akcedron against his will and without his knowledge , which caused lasting damage to his heart.
In fact, Koblet collapsed on the fifth stage, an individual time trial , but Kübler also lost five minutes to Fornara, who took over the gold jersey . The next day, Koblet gave up. His good friend Fornara kept the lead until the finish in Zurich after winning two more stages.
