The 40th Tour de Suisse took place from June 9th to 18th, 1976. It was held in eleven stages and a prologue over a distance of 1,456.5 kilometers.
The overall winner was Hennie Kuiper from the Netherlands . The tour started in Murten with an individual time trial as a prologue and 91 drivers, of which 62 drivers also crossed the finish line in Murten on the last day.
