Wilfried David (born February 22, 1946 in Bruges ; † June 15, 2015 in Wingene ) was a Belgian cyclist .
Athletic career
In 1967 Wilfried David won the Tour of Belgium for amateurs , and the following year he repeated this success in the field of professionals . In 1969 he was fourth in the overall ranking of the Tour de Suisse . In 1971 he won a stage of the Vuelta a España and finished second in the overall standings, behind compatriot Ferdi Bracke . In 1972 he won a stage of the Tour de Suisse and finished tenth overall. In 1973 he decided the Tour de Romandie and Halle-Ingooigem for himself. He competed seven times in the Tour de France and won a stage in 1973 . In 1976 he finished second again in the Tour of Belgium, after which he ended his career.
After finishing his cycling career , David and his wife ran the Munckenhove café-restaurant in Ruddervoorde until it burned down completely after a fire in December 2011. On June 15, 2015, the couple was killed when their car fell off a street early in the morning and crashed into a ditch.
