Aurélien Clerc (born August 6, 1979 in Vevey ) is a former Swiss cyclist .
Career
Clerc became a professional with the Post Swiss Team in 2001 , after spending two months as a trainee there in 2000 . After switching to Mapei-Quick Step in 2002, the Sprinter achieved its first successes by winning individual sections of smaller tours in addition to the Belgian one-day race Nokere Koerse . In the following years he won stages on the Tour of Picardy and the Tour of Burgos before he was able to draw attention to himself for the first time in the Pro Tour in 2005 . Although he did not win, he was at the top of the mass sprints at both the Giro d'Italia and the Tour de Suisse . After the stage success in 2008 during the Three Days of West Flanders , he finished second in the semi-classic Gent-Wevelgem behind Óscar Freire . In December 2009, Clerc ended his career.
