EPSEM

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The EPSEM ("equal probability selection method") describes a selection procedure in which all elements of a population have the same chance of getting into the sample . A random sample is the simplest form of an EPSEM sample.

The formulation "equal probability sampling mechanism" given in the book by Schnell / Hill / Esser, which is generally highly recommended, is misleading; you can already see this from the fact that the abbreviation should then be EPSAM. In fact, the English-language specialist literature uses the formulation given above.
