biography

Aschenwald was accepted into the squad of the Austrian Ski Association at the end of the 1970s . She celebrated her first major success at the age of 17 when she won the slalom at the Austrian Championships in 1980 . In the same winter, she also scored her first points in the European Cup . In the 1980/81 season she reached second place in the European Cup slalom with three podium places. She also came to her first appearances in the World Cup and on February 3, 1981, she took eleventh place in the Zwiesel slalom for the first time.

In the European Cup season 1981/82 Aschenwald won the slalom standings with three wins in the slaloms of Abetone , Bled and Ljubljana and another two podium places. She once also made it onto the podium in the giant slalom, finishing seventh overall. In addition, she became Austrian slalom champion for the second time . After these achievements, she came back to the World Cup in the winter of 1982/83. Here, however, she was less successful and only came ninth in the Schruns slalom on January 16, 1983 in the points. Therefore, Aschenwald had to start again in the European Cup in the 1983/84 season. Since she was only one of the top three this winter, she was dismissed from the ÖSV squad due to lack of success, whereupon she ended her career. Later she took over the management of the Gasthof Aschenwald in her hometown Westendorf .
