John David Washington (2018)

John David Washington (born July 28, 1984 in Toluca Lake , California ) is an American actor and former American football player. He had played running back for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League (UFL) for four years before devoting himself to acting. His father is the actor Denzel Washington .

Life

Washington was born in Toluca Lake, California to Denzel Washington and Pauletta Pearson. He attended Campbell Hall School in Los Angeles and played basketball as well as American football . Washington then played football at Morehouse College in Atlanta. There he established as a senior with 1,198 erlaufenen yards and nine touchdowns on a new school record. In 2005 he was named "National Player of the Week" by D2Football.com.

Football professional career

After he was not selected in the 2006 NFL Draft , Washington signed a contract with the St. Louis Rams as a free agent on May 1, 2006 , but was released before the start of the season to join the Rams Practice Squad just three days later to become. In 2007 he played for the Hamburg Sea Devils in the NFL Europe and switched to Rhein Fire during the season .

Washington was selected by the California Redwoods (later Sacramento Mountain Lions ) in the first draft of the United Football League in 2009 and signed on August 18. He played the following four seasons for the Mountain Lions until the league disbanded in 2012.

Acting career

Washington played the role of Ricky Jerret on the HBO comedy series Ballers from 2015 to 2019 . He plays the leading role in Spike Lee's drama BlacKkKlansman , which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2018 . At the age of six he already had a small role in Spike Lee's Malcolm X , in which his father played the title role. In 2018 he was also seen in A crook & gentleman . In 2020 he took on the lead role in Christopher Nolan's action film Tenet .

In late June 2020, John David Washington became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
