reception

In the IMDb , the film currently has 7.9 out of 10 possible points (as of December 2017). The film magazine Cinema ruled that Tom Hardy breathed an unpredictable life into the character of Freddie and thus both fascinated and deterred the audience with his cattle-like performance. The lexicon of international film found that the gnarled social drama would rise impressively above the current TV standard. Tom Sutcliffe noted on Independent.com that the series' script had to do a tricky balancing act to prevent half of the audience from pulling the switch because of the main character's obnoxious character.

The miniseries was nominated at the Irish Film and Television Awards 2010 in the categories “Best Production Design” and “Best Make Up & Hair”. She could win in the latter category. Tom Hardy was nominated for Best Actor at the RTS Television Awards and the UK Crime Thriller Awards .
