action

Young Leo Ryan is depressed that his roar still doesn't sound as impressive as his father's voice. Now he's the mockery of the whole New York zoo . Although his father Samson tries to animate him with his adventures from the wilderness, Ryan manages nothing but a low croak. Believing his father learned how to roar in the wilderness, Ryan decides to run away after an argument with his father and hide in a green shipping container. Before Ryan has changed his mind, the container is locked and taken away.

When Samson notices Ryan's cries for help, it's too late. Immediately he breaks out of the zoo with the squirrel Benny, the koala Nigel, the giraffe Bridget and the anaconda Larry in order to save Ryan. You go to the New York harbor and have to watch that Ryan is involuntarily loaded onto a huge container ship. Without further ado, Samson and his friends take control of a smaller ship lying in the harbor and follow Ryan's trail with the help of flying geese.

They are stranded on the shores of the African continent and while searching for Ryan they discover that the containers are being used for a major rescue operation to protect the animals of the wilderness from an imminent volcanic eruption. Samson follows his frightened son into the jungle, but loses his trail. When he admits to his friends that he did not grow up in the wilderness, but in a circus, the friends part ways. A little later, the rest of the group of wild wildebeest is captured under the leadership of the evil Kazar. The wildebeest consider Nigel to be their god, since a long time ago a cloth koala - from an airplane - fell from the sky and saved Kazar from a dangerous situation when confronting several cubs. Since then, Kazar has been preaching the belief that eating a lion can reverse the food chain, with the wildebeest becoming a hunter and the lion being degraded to prey.

Samson has meanwhile found Ryan, confesses his true origins to him and helplessly witnesses how his son is captured by the wildebeest and brought to the volcano, where he is to be eaten by the wildebeest. With the help of some chameleons, who have the gift of camouflaging him to the point of invisibility, Samson manages to sneak into the cave of the wildebeest and free his friends. But Samson himself gets into a fight with Kazar, which he seems to be losing. Ryan's courageous intervention puts his son's life in danger and sets Samson free, with which he can initially fight back Kazar. But the herd of wildebeest seems overwhelming. To everyone's surprise, she takes Samson's side, because she was deeply impressed by the rescue of his son. They are also tired of Kazar's dictatorship and no longer want to pretend that they are not what they are by nature - prey animals. Kazar wants to kill the lions in a final fight and is finally defeated by Samson's roar that causes the cave to burst. Shortly before the volcano erupts, the New York zoo residents can flee the island with the wildebeest herd on the small ship.

criticism

According to the verdict of the Lexikon des Internationale Films , Tierisch wild is an “animated adventure that has been cleverly designed using computer technology, but the effects of which cannot hide the lack of ideas in the story. At best, a few pretty fringe episodes enhance the maudlin plot. "
