Paul Polman (born July 11, 1956 in Enschede ) is a Dutch business manager .

Life

Polman grew up in a Catholic family near the German border. He studied economics at the University of Groningen and then at the University of Cincinnati . From 1979 Polman worked for the US company Procter & Gamble for 27 years . In 2006 Polman moved to Nestlé . Polman has been CEO of Unilever since January 2009 . In 2015 he received the Champions of Earth Award . In 2017, he turned down a takeover offer from Kraft Heinz . On November 29, 2018, Polman announced that he would be retiring from the company on January 1, 2019, after failing to implement his plans to restructure and relocate the shareholders in the preceding months. Polman is married and has three children.
