description

The Atlantic View is located just off Crown Street near the intersection of Shore Street and King Street . The exact time of construction has not been recorded, which is why only the early 19th century can be given as the construction period. It has typical architectural features of the end of the Georgian era . The two-story house is kept in a simple style. Five windows are symmetrically embedded in the front. A small, acentric protruding porch with a gable roof , which is the entrance area , faces the street . This is covered with asbestos tiles and is more recent. The building itself ends with a slate-covered gable roof. Cuboid corner stones are installed on the edges, but these are also whitewashed and therefore do not stand out in color from the facade. Parts of the building are plastered using the traditional Harling technique. The name of the house is derived from its slightly elevated position near the bay of Portnahaven, from which not only a large part of the village but also the Atlantic Ocean is visible.
