Enchanted is an American fantasy comedy with musical interludes from 2007 . It is a real-life film with animation elements, the first 10 minutes being pure animation and then the real film is enriched with animation elements. The plot of this production from the Disney studios is inspired by Disney's own classic fairy tale films. The animated sequences were deliberately created in the traditional drawing style ( cel animation ) without the involvement of computers. However, the real film contains numerous computer-generated effects and animations.

action

Giselle lives in the fantastic cartoon land of Andalasia , which is ruled by the evil Queen Narissa. Their greatest fear is that their stepson Prince Edward will find his great love and want to become king himself. To prevent this, Edward is always accompanied by the servant Nathaniel, who ensures that the prince does not get the idea of looking for a wife by hunting trolls. On one of these troll hunts, Prince Edward comes near the house in the forest where Giselle lives, surrounded by many animals. When he hears her sing, he is sure that he has found his princess. Nathaniel tries to destroy the oncoming happiness by releasing the troll he has just caught, but Edward saves Giselle, and since it is love at first sight, the two decide to get married the next day.

Queen Narissa is not enthusiastic about this, which is why she turns into an old woman the next morning and intercepts Giselle on the way to the wedding and plunges into an alleged wishing well, which turns out to be a gateway to reality.

Now comes the first change from the cartoon to the real world. Distraught and in her wedding dress, Giselle ends up in the middle of Times Square in New York City . After unpleasant experiences with some New Yorkers, she meets the divorce lawyer Robert and his little daughter Morgan, who wants to help the unfortunate. Robert is less enthusiastic about the stranger, but he lets her spend the night in his apartment. When his almost fiancé Nancy finds Giselle wearing only a towel the next morning, an argument breaks out and Robert decides to get rid of his unwelcome guest as quickly as possible.

He takes Giselle to the office and asks the receptionist to organize her trip home. Meanwhile, Giselle has begun to reconcile a divorce client with her husband, which angered his boss. Robert takes Giselle out on the street and sends her away with some money. Plagued by a guilty conscience, he follows her to a park, where the two get to know each other better and also encounter some differences. As irritated as Robert von Giselle's fairytale ideas of love is, she finds his harsh words about the reality of interpersonal relationships disturbing.

A friend of Giselle, the chipmunk Pip, has observed, however, as it was pushed into the well and hurries her with Prince Edward for help. The Evil Queen also sends her assistant Nathaniel to prevent the couple from finding each other. Pip, who happens to find out about the Queen's plan to put Giselle into a magical sleep with the help of poisoned apples, cannot speak in the real world, and the prince simply does not understand his repeated attempts at pantomime. It is only through luck that Giselle escapes two attempts at poisoning. Another problem is that Edward doesn't know where exactly to look for her until he finally sees her on the local news on TV.

Giselle, who has fallen in love with Robert in the meantime, is not as happy as expected to see her prince again and asks him out on a date before the wedding. They meet Robert and Nancy at a costume ball under the motto "Kings & Queens". At the first dance, the partners should be swapped and Robert and Giselle get close. But the imminent return to Andalasia with Edward is very stressful for Giselle.

Then the evil queen appears, disguised as an old woman again, and puts her plan of poisoning into practice herself. The horror is great when Giselle falls lifeless to the floor, but shortly before midnight Robert comes up with the idea that a "kiss of true love" could still save her. After a vain attempt by Prince Edward, it is his turn and the sleeping woman is released from the curse. Furious, Narissa turns into a dragon and kidnaps Robert to the top of the skyscraper. Giselle climbs after to save her loved one, which she finally manages. While Giselle becomes happy with Robert and Morgan in the real world, Edward and Nancy return to Andalasia, where the two marry (in cartoon form).

Reviews

Amy Adams and James Marsden while filming Cursed

James O'Ehley described the film on www.scifimoviepage.com as " quirky, delicious and charming ".

The magazine Cinema wrote that the film played self-deprecatingly with almost all the clichés of classic Disney cartoons, but always remained true to their conciliatory spirit. That makes " this brisk, sugar-sweet princess adventure the perfect Christmas film for the whole family ".

Angela Zierow wrote in TV Digital 26 of December 14, 2007 that the film was a wonderful modernization and a tongue-in-cheek homage to the Disney classic Cinderella , which should be fun for adults and children alike .

The lexicon of the international film judges: “ Entertaining fairy tale as a mixture of animation and real film, which comes up with some pretty ideas. The film celebrates the Disney kitsch, which it initially satirized, admittedly in the long run itself and sugar-coated everyday life on earth with a large portion of naivety. "

Awards

Saturn Award 2007
Academy Award (Oscar) 2008
Golden Globe Award 2008

The English speakers for Arielle and Belle , Jodi Benson and Paige O'Hara , have cameo appearances in the film as receptionists and soap actresses, respectively . Furthermore, Judy Kuhn , the singing voice of Pocahontas , can be seen in one scene as a mother of three.

The German film distributor made a mistake in the translation of the film title: The original title "Enchanted" means "enchanted". The word "bewünscht" exists in German only as a conjugated form of the verb "bewuchten" in the 3rd person present tense, colloquially and in Austrian also in the 2nd person present tense, as well as participle II in connection with "haben". As an adjective - as used in this case - "cursed" is linguistically incorrect.
