Use in film

After she was taken into Robert's apartment, Giselle wakes up in a terribly messy room. With Happy Working Song she calls rats, pigeons, flies and cockroaches, which she uses to clean up the apartment. While singing, she finds encouraging words for her helpers and ends the song after the work is done with the remark "Wasn't that fun?"

References to older Disney films

Happy Working Song refers directly to the song True Love's Kiss in the cartoon part of the film. Giselle calls animals from the area with the same sequence of tones. In the world of Bambi come the friendly animated animals, as they are common in a Disney film - something that is of course not to be expected in non-animated New York.

In an interview, writer Stephen Schwartz said that Happy Working Song quoted the song Whistle While You Work from the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and the songs from the film Cinderella , in which the little mice start to work, with a humorous exaggeration.
