Kevin James (* 26. April 1965 in Mineola , Long Iceland , New York as Kevin George Knipfing ) is an American actor , comedian , voice actor and screenwriter . He was best known for his portrayal of Doug Heffernan in the sitcom King of Queens . James has German ancestry.

life and career

Kevin James was born Kevin George Knipfing in Mineola , New York and grew up in Stony Brook , Long Island. There he attended Ward Melville High School, where he trained with the later professional wrestler Mick Foley in the same wrestling team. Then James attended Cortland University , which he left without a degree. There he played as a running back on the football team while studying sports management. After three years of study, he decided to attend an acting school. When he got a role in a comedy, he decided to join his brother Gary Valentine 's stand-up comedy group .

After eleven years in the field, he met Ray Romano on the Comedy Circuit show . While this was enjoying great success with his sitcom, James was discovered on Star Search . After appearing on the Tonight Show , his breakthrough came in 1996 at the Montreal Comedy Festival . He then had a guest role on Romano's sitcom Everyone Loves Raymond .

In 1998 he got his own sitcom, King of Queens , in which his brother Gary Valentine plays his cousin. At the same time, he toured the United States with a stand-up comedy show. In 2005 he made his film debut with the film Hitch . In addition to acting, James works as a screenwriter, director and producer. After around nine years, King of Queens ended 2007 with the ninth season. The shooting of the film The Department Store Cop began in spring 2008, and a year later it was released in German cinemas. Here James worked as an actor, producer and screenwriter. The comedy Der Zoowärter followed in 2011 and Der Kaufhaus Cop 2 in 2015 . In German, James is dubbed by Thomas Karallus .

Kevin James has had his own channel on YouTube since the beginning of 2017 , on which he has been uploading content since February 2020.

Private life

In 2004, Kevin James married longtime girlfriend Steffiana De La Cruz, who made several guest appearances in King of Queens and a brief appearance on The Department Store Cop . They live in Manhattan Beach . Their first daughter was born at the end of September 2005, another daughter was born in mid-June 2007 and a son in April 2011. The third daughter followed in January 2015. James plays golf and is a huge fan of the New York Jets Football Club and the New York Mets Baseball Club .
