Daniel Milton "Dan" Rooney (born July 20, 1932 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , † April 13, 2017 ) was an American diplomat and entrepreneur .

Career

Dan Rooney graduated from Duquesne University . From July 3, 2009 to December 14, 2012 he was the United States Ambassador to Ireland .

From 1975 he was the owner and president of the NFL team Pittsburgh Steelers . During his tenure, the Steelers won the Super Bowl five times . In 2000 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame .
