Jochen Frank Schmidt (born October 23, 1979 in Bad Säckingen ) is a German composer , librettist and director and has been the theater director of the Gloria Theater since 2007 .

Life

Schmidt passed his Abitur in 1999 at the Klettgau-Gymnasium in Waldshut-Tiengen and completed his community service at the Heinrich Rösch school for the disabled in Waldshut-Tiengen. He then began studying media economics in Ilmenau, which he completed with a degree in business administration.

Schmidt published his first compositions with the band Omikron while still at school. During the civil service, Jochen Frank Schmidt staged his first musical, “ Die Lust am Leben ” with students at the Klettgau-Gymnasium. The then senior studies director supported the project, which was a success. The musical was performed several times in the Waldshut town hall and in some schools, including in Switzerland.

While preparing for the intermediate diploma, he wrote his second musical: " Heartbeat ". This was premiered in 2003 at the Klettgau-Gymnasium Waldshut-Tiengen. Due to the great demand, Jochen Frank Schmidt rented an old factory hall in Waldshut-Tiengen in 2004 and turned it into a musical theater for four weeks. In 13 performances, 6500 people saw the musical Heart Palpitations. In addition, the musical has also been performed several times in Karlsruhe and in the Burghof Lörrach . In 2005, four open air events were held in the Tiengen stadium, which could hold 800 people. Here, too, the performances were mostly sold out.

In 2007 he took over the Gloria Theater in Bad Säckingen together with Alexander Dieterle . Schmidt is the artistic director and responsible for the artistic side, Dieterle for the technical area and the software for advance sales.

Jochen Frank Schmidt wrote the third musical " Lichterloh " while preparing for his diploma. It was premiered in the Gloria-Theater Bad Säckingen in September 2007. With this premiere, the management of the Gloria Theater in Bad Säckingen began. It was almost always sold out there for three months. The first two musicals were then repeated in the Gloria Theater for three months.

In 2010 the fourth musical " Bikini Scandal " followed. This musical was also performed three times in the Musical Theater Basel. In 2012, “Lichterloh” was repeated for one season in the Gloria Theater. On December 14, 2012, Schmidt was invited to the SWR state show and reported on the musical "Lichterloh".

In 2014, Jochen Frank Schmidt staged Aida ” for the first time, a musical not written by him.

The world premiere of the fifth Schmidt musical took place in the Gloria Theater on October 21, 2017: Happy Landing - the musical . In the first season (October 2017 - April 2018) 21,000 viewers saw the musical. At the end of the first season, the extension for another season was announced. A total of almost 35,000 visitors saw the musical in 60 shows.

On October 2nd, 2019 the Gloria-Theater announced that there will be a sixth musical by Jochen Frank Schmidt. Tommy Tailors Traumfabrik - The musical will premiere on October 17, 2020.

In 2010 Jochen Frank Schmidt married the choreographer Vanessa Vario and has two children.
