Justin James "JJ" Watt (* 22. March 1989 in Waukesha , Wisconsin ) is an American American football poker players on the position of the defensive ends . He played college football for Central Michigan University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison . In the 2011 NFL Draft , the Houston Texans selected him as the eleventh player in the first round. Since then, he has grown to become one of the best players in the National Football League (NFL) and has been voted into five Pro Bowls .

college

Watt was rated as a two-star talent and was not listed among the top talent in either the tight ends or the defensive ends. However, he was listed as the seventh best player in Wisconsin. After attending the universities of Central Michigan , Colorado and Minnesota , among others , he enrolled at Central Michigan University.

Central Michigan

Watt played a year for the Central Michigan Chippewas as a tight end in 2007, catching 8 passes for 77 yards . However, he was unsatisfied with his situation and decided to move to the University of Wisconsin , which is only 45 minutes from his hometown, to increase his chances of an NFL career .

Wisconsin

Watt had always intended to play for the Wisconsin Badgers, but they found it too easy after high school. Although he had gained more than 10 kg in Michigan, he was given little hope of playing time now. In 2008 he was out, but in 2009 he played as a defensive end in all 13 games, posting 44 tackles and four sacks . In 2010 he finished the season with 59 tackles, seven sacks, one interception and two conquered fumbles , for which he received the Ted Hendricks Award for the best defensive end in college football. Although he had the opportunity to play another year of college, he decided to take part in the 2011 NFL Draft .

On April 28, 2011, Watt was selected as the eleventh player in the draft by the Houston Texans . On 31 July 2011, he signed a four-year contract 11,237,000 US dollars .

2011

In his first NFL game, he scored five tackles and captured a fumble. By the end of the season he had collected 56 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two captured fumbles and one blocked field goal .

In the Houston Texans ' first ever play-off game, on January 7, 2012 against the Cincinnati Bengals , he managed an interception against the Bengals' quarterback Andy Dalton , which he ran back to his first touchdown in the end zone . The Texans won by 31:10. In the Divisional Round against the Baltimore Ravens on January 15, 2012, he sank Joe Flacco 2.5 times, but could not prevent the 13:20 defeat and thus the Texans' first play-off.

His second season as a professional turned out to be one of the best a defender has ever had in the NFL. On 12 game against the Detroit Lions Watt broke the franchise record of Mario Williams for most bag in one season. Watt finished the season with 81 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 39 tackles for yard loss, four forced fumbles, two captured fumbles and 16 blocked passes. Watt was elected to the Pro Bowl for the first time and recognized as an All-Pro .

The Texans played again against the Cincinnati Bengals in the wild card round of the play-offs. Watt made five tackles and a sack, and he helped his team to the 19:13 win. In the Divisional Round against the New England Patriots , Watt had a bad day like the entire defense and allowed 41 points. Thus, the Texans were eliminated by the 28:41 defeat as in the previous year in the Divisional Round.

On January 14, 2013, Watt was named AFC Defensive Player of the Year and on February 3, NFL Defensive Player of the Year .

2013

Watt played in all 16 games in 2013, hitting 80 tackles, 10.5 sacks, four forced and two captured fumbles. He also blocked seven passes and was re-elected to the Pro Bowl despite the weak season of his team. After the Texans won the first two games of the season, the remaining 14 were all lost, and they ended the season as the worst NFL team.

2014

On September 1, 2014, Watt signed a new six-year contract for $ 100 million and a signing bonus of $ 30.9 million. The contract makes him the highest-paid NFL defender of all time, with a salary of $ 21 million in the 2016 season.

On September 14, 2014 he caught a pass from his quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick as a tight end against the Oakland Raiders and thus scored his first offensive touchdown. He scored his second touchdown of the season on September 28 against the Buffalo Bills when he intercepted a pass from EJ Manuel and carried it back over 80 yards into the end zone. For the fifth touchdown he caught a pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick, making him the first defensive lineman with five touchdowns in one season since 1994.

On December 21, Watt achieved his 54th bag, which is a franchise record. His 54th sack was the first safety of his career; in that game he scored three sacks and 20.5 in the season. JJ Watt was the first player to score over 20 sacks in two seasons.

He was elected to the Pro Bowl for that season, which was one of the best in NFL history for a defense player . In the Pro Bowl, Watt caught an interception, picked up a fumbled (accidentally dropped) ball and was elected Defensive MVP. He was also elected as a defensive end in the First All-Pro team and as a defensive tackle in the Second All-Pro team. He also won the Defensive Player of the Year election and came second in the NFL Most Valuable Player Award .

2015

In the 2015 season, JJ Watt played all 16 games as a starter, despite a broken hand and a groin injury. He scored 76 tackles, 17.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and one captured fumble. Watt was elected to the Pro Bowl for the fourth time in a row after the season, but he could not participate due to an injury. With the Houston Texans he ended the season with a 9: 7 record and thus led his team into the play-offs, where the Texans lost their wild card game against the Kansas City Chiefs with 0:30. After the season, JJ Watt had to undergo an operation on his groin. On February 6, 2016, Watt was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award for the third time . He is the second player after Lawrence Taylor to win the award in two consecutive years.

JJ Watt has two brothers, Derek Watt and TJ Watt . Both Derek ( fullback ) and TJ ( outside linebacker ) play for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL .

As of May 26, 2019, JJ Watt is engaged to Kealia Ohai , the captain of the Houston Dash . The two will get married on February 15, 2020 in the Bahamas. Ohai joined the Chicago Red Stars for the new season .
