Eugène Beaudouin (born July 20, 1898 in Paris ; † January 14, 1983 there ) was a French architect and town planner .

Life

The Catholic-raised son of the architect Léon and Marie (née Durand) came from Paris. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in the French capital in the studio of Emmanuel Pontremoli , where his degree was awarded the Prix ​​de Rome in 1928 , and was a partner of Marcel Lods from 1925 to 1940 . From this collaboration, for example, the open-air school in Suresnes was born , where Jean Prouvé was an engineer. During this period he began to deal with urban planning and the functional and spatial organization of entire city districts.

In 1942 he became director of the newly established architecture section at the University of Geneva . In addition to this school, he also taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1946. From 1960 to 1964 he was President of the Union Internationale des Architectes . From 1961, Beaudouin was a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts, succeeding Jules Formigé .

His most important works in the 1960s and 1970s include the headquarters of the International Labor Organization (together with Pier Luigi Nervi and Alberto Camenzind), the expansion of the League of Nations (together with François Bouvier, André Gaillard and Arthur Lozero).

He was married to the painter Joséphine Cahuzac.
