Bert Bell Award
The Bert Bell Award is given annually to the best professional American football player . The prize is awarded by the Maxwell Football Club - a club that was founded in 1935 and which has set itself the task of increasing safety in football. The club's founder was the founder and former co-owner of the Philadelphia Eagles Bert Bell . Bell was also the executive director of the National Football League (NFL) from 1946 to 1959 . The club's current chairman is former Eagles quarterback and award winner Ron Jaworski . The award is presented independently of the NFL Most Valuable Player Award .
Eligible to vote
The players by the NFL team owners, by the chosen coach of the teams, by the media and by the members of the Maxwell Football Club. So far 59 players have been chosen. Record holders are Johnny Unitas , Randall Cunningham and Peyton Manning , who won the award three times.
